Preamble

Reggies solidarity cooperative is defined by its community as a pillar of student life at Concordia University. Although Reggies is located on Concordia’s downtown campus, the bar welcomes and is open to anyone who adheres to its various policies. The General Policy elaborated below is intended to set a baseline parameter for clients with regard to basic conduct.

Reggies solidarity cooperative is acutely aware of the damaging impacts behind excessive drinking; not only for the individual but for the entire community. As a result, Reggies is taking pro-active steps to foster a healthier, safer, and ultimately a more respectful environment where everyone can appreciate its vibrant venue with good food and drinks.

Definitions

Definitions are intended to increase clarity and reduce ambiguity. Please contact the Reggies Manager should uncertainty arise in interpreting any of the language in our policies.

  1. “Proper photo identification” means identification issued by the government such as a passport or driver’s license, a university ID is not considered valid. (Gender non-conforming and trans patrons should refer to the safer space policy for more info on ID and gender identity);
  2. “Drinking games” means any activity where the consumption of alcohol is associated with competitive behavior;
  3. “Bouncers” refers to Reggies staff who welcome clients at the door, ensure a respectful atmosphere between and among clients and staff, and do not serve food or drink.

Policy

  1. The capacity of Reggies Bar is 336 people and may not be exceeded under any circumstance.
  2. Legal drinking age in the province of Quebec is 18. Only those of legal drinking age will be granted admission to Reggies Bar and proper photo identification must be provided upon request. Under no circumstance will individuals below the legal drinking age be allowed into Reggies Bar, regardless of their involvement in events.
  3. Any form of drinking games are strictly prohibited. Individuals who participate or promote the participation of drinking games will be asked to leave the premises.
  4. Gambling in any form (e.g. poker) is prohibited in Reggies. Individuals who participate or promote the participation of gambling will be asked to leave the premises.
  5. Alcohol consumption is to remain in the bar; no alcohol is permitted to leave the bar under any circumstances.
  6. Only alcohol purchased at the bar may be consumed in the bar. Under no circumstances will individuals be permitted to bring their own alcohol into Reggies Bar.
  7. Illegal drugs are prohibited by Federal and Provincial laws. Zero tolerance will be exercised if drugs are found on the premises. Illegal substances will be confiscated and the people in possession of illegal substances will be asked to leave the premises.
  8. Reggies has adopted a safer space policy that can be found at the end of this document and online at www.reggies.ca. All patrons and event participants are expected to follow this policy. Individuals found in failure to do so will be asked to leave the premises.
  9. Smoking in Reggies Bar is prohibited and anyone violating the law will be asked to leave the premises. Those smoking outdoors are required by law to maintain a distance of at least 30 feet (9 meters) from any building entrance.
  10. The above policies and regulations are subject to change without notice, and final decisions about policies are at the discretion of the Reggies Bar Management.

Booking 

Preamble

Reggies Booking Policy allows groups and organizations to host events during our opening hours or off-hours for special events. A large part of the booking procedure is to ensure clarity of expectations and delineate responsibilities for those involved in organizing an event.  All space bookings are administered strictly by Reggies staff, any commitments made by external parties to gain access to Reggies space are inoperative.

The community surrounding Reggies solidarity cooperative deeply appreciates the contribution made by external parties to promote Reggies and to incorporate our establishment into your activities. For assistance navigating the booking process please contact the Reggies Manager.

  1. “Internal groups” refer to organizations affiliated with Concordia University such as but not limited to those registered under the Dean of Students Office
  2. “Reggies authorized sound technician” refers to individuals who have proven knowledge of sound equipment and has been approved by Reggies.

Policy

General Provisions

  1. Reggies Bar regular hours of operation are as follows:
    Monday-Wednesday 11:30am to 11:30pm
    Thursday-Friday 11:30am to 2:00am
    Saturday-Sunday Closed but available for reservation.
    *Last call is 30 minutes before the bar closes
  2. Events booked outside the regular operating hours may be subject to additional charges; including but not limited to: security, staff, and cleaning fees. Each event request outside the regular operating hours is reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
  3. Depending upon the nature of the event, Reggies bouncers may be required at an additional cost to groups. The determination of the number of agents required for events is at the discretion of the Reggies Manager or an authorized staff person. For more details on additional security requirements, please contact the Reggies Manager.
  4. Sporting activities (such as kicking balls, playing frisbee, etc) are forbidden in Reggies Bar.
  5. All booking requests must be made through our online booking form at least two weeks prior to the date of the event.
  6. Any group booking an event at Reggies must read and abide by the Safer Space Policy. Failure to do so will result in a cancellation of your booking.
  7. Once a booking request is received and tentatively approved an event agreement highlighting the Safer Space Policy between Reggies and the event organizer(s) must be signed in order for the booking to be confirmed.

Promotion of Booking

  1. All advertising and event promotion is the responsibility of the event organizer(s).
  2. All promotional materials (posters, flyers, online ads, etc) must be approved by the Reggies Manager prior to distribution. Facebook and other social media content must be submitted to, and approved by, the Reggies Manager or an authorized staff person before distribution.
  3. Failure to obtain approval for promotional material or social media content will result in the cancellation of the event.
  4. It is the responsibility of the event organizer(s) to respect any regulations limiting the distribution of advertising material on the Concordia University campus. Please refer to http://www.concordia.ca/about/policies.html for more details.
  5. Groups must inform the Reggies Manager or an authorized staff person of any sponsorship for an event by an external company or organization. Failure to do so will result in the cancellation of the event.
  6. Use of Reggies’ logo, for promotion or any other purpose is strictly prohibited without the written consent of the Reggies Manager or an authorized staff person.

Admission, Revenues & Coat Check

  1. Reggies Bar retains all revenue accrued by sales.
  2. Should an event(s) be organized for the purpose of raising money for a non-profit or charitable cause, this must be indicated in your booking request.
  3. Proof that money collected will be transferred to said organization or cause shall be required from organizer(s). Reggies will not collect revenues from admission for such events.
  4. Any individuals working coat check must refrain from consuming alcohol before or during their volunteer hours, and cannot bring alcohol into the coat check.
  5. Coat check volunteers and group organizers agree to always take direction from the Reggies Management and Security Personnel.
  6.  Coat check fees cannot exceed admission charges. Reggies will not collect any revenue earned through coat check fees.

Equipment

  1. At the time of filling a space booking, it is the responsibility of the group booking Reggies Bar to communicate the need for setup, operation, and use of any audio/visual equipment during the course of their event. Failure by organizer(s) to get Reggies authorized sound technician for live music events will result in the cancellation of their event.
  2. Limited sound equipment is available for use by groups booking Reggies Bar and must be arranged with the Reggies Bar Manager prior to the event. It is the responsibility of the event organizer(s) to ensure that any additional equipment required be arranged and obtained prior to the event.
  3. Any group using the Reggies Bar sound equipment is responsible for any damages caused during a respective booking. Furthermore, they must ensure that any equipment used or moved during the course of an event be returned to its original location and correctly reconnected. Failure to do so will result in additional fees being charged to the group.
  4. The use of smoke machines, paint, permanent markers, powders, liquids, candles, pyrotechnics, etc. is strictly forbidden. Organizers will be charged for damages related to the use of such products.

Insurance

  1. Some events may require supplemental insurance coverage. In that case, proof of insurance must be submitted to the Reggies Manager for independent approval at the earliest possible moment following booking confirmation.
  2. A group booking an event at Reggies Bar is solely responsible for the event. Your signature attests that you and your group agree to be liable for, and to pay for, the cost of damages and/or loss of equipment and/or property.
  3. Reggies is not responsible for any lost, stolen, or damaged goods.
  4. The above policies and regulations are subject to change without notice, and final decisions about policies are at the discretion of the Reggies Bar Management.

Safer Space 

Preamble

Reggies and the CSU believe that all students should be able to have a good night out. Reggies believes all students should be free from intimidation or harassment, resulting from prejudice or discrimination on the grounds of age, disability, relationship or parental status, race, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, socioeconomic status, or ideology or culture, or any other aspect of human diversity. The points above are not always visible and patrons and organizers are free to self-identify as they choose.

We recognize discrimination can occur wherever it is not actively challenged and the aim of these guidelines is to address this.

Any event organizer, patron, or staff member is responsible for upholding this policy at any event. All organizers, patrons, and staff members at Reggies are accountable for their own language and behaviour. If behaviour is reported that is not in accordance with this policy, staff will take appropriate action and patrons may be asked to leave immediately.

Policy

  1. This policy encompasses all events that take place in the Reggies space, and the organizations that host them.
  2. All event organizers are expected to read and sign this policy before their booking request can be accepted.
  3. Patrons are expected to respect the right of all individuals to enjoy Reggies as an environment that is welcoming and free of discriminatory, harassing, violent, or non-consensual language and actions.
  4. Patrons of Reggies must not:
    • Engage in acts of sexual harassment (ex. name-calling, unwanted touching—no means no);
    • Act in a discriminatory way to any individual or group;
    • Create an unsafe environment for any individual or group of individuals through unwanted attention;
    • Create or seek to create an intimidating environment for every and any patron, member of staff, or member of the general public.
  5. Event organizers at Reggies must not:
    • Engage in acts of sexual harassment (ex. name-calling, unwanted touching—no means no);
    • Host events that promote discriminatory behavior or actions (ex. chants, racist themes, bulls**t like that);
    • Create or seek to create an intimidating environment for any patron or member of staff;
    • Deny any patron access to the space based on, but not restricted to, gender, race, age, or any other aspect of human diversity, etc.
  6. Event organizers at Reggies must take reasonable steps to:
    • Prevent and intervene in acts of sexual harassment (ex. name-calling, unwanted touching—no means no);
    • Ensure that the space remains accessible to all patrons;
    • Protect all participants in their events and activities from harassment, intimidation, violence, or non-consensual language;
    • Ensure that all events and activities held at Reggies by their organization comply with this policy.
  7. All staff at Reggies will reinforce this policy.
